Michaela Rose Frey also known as the 2015 Ms. Creole Gumbo stopped at Mildred Harris Elementary to read to some of the Kindergarten Kids. “I want to promote Bridge City as much as possible,” says the Gumbo Queen, “The Gumbo Festival is what Bridge City is known for so I have to try my best to show an example for the kids.”
Michaela is a former student of Harris Elementary, Ms. Pittman having been one of her former teachers. “Michaela was always really bright and behaved well in class, I’m not surprised she is where she is now,” the now 3rd grade teacher said happily.
Of the former teachers at Harris, only two are still on staff from Michaela’s term at the school. Ms. Aime, although she was not on staff at the time, was student teaching when Michaela was taking classes. “I remember her! It was so long ago but I remember her and her little brother!” says the 2nd grade teacher referring to Michaela’s brother Austin.
When asked about her future, the Gumbo Queen stayed hopeful, “I do plan on going to college after my tour in and around the city. I feel I need to make an impact where I come from and doing this full time makes it possible.”
Michaela graduated from high school in 2014.
