While Easter has come and gone around the United States, students in Pre-K are still finding eggs; or rather, finding chicks.
“It’s an Easter Miracle,” says Pre-K teacher Ms. Sisung, “The kids are excited and so are we. We show them how much care is needed to protect the chicks and that all of our parents do the same when we’re young.”
The chicks are ordered online and are delivered to the school. They sit for 24 hours and put in an incubator for another 21 days.
“They hatch right on time too!” says ESL teacher Ms. Martinez, “To see the glow on the kids’ faces, holding the chicks, you can’t put a price on it.”
Chicks are ordered from the teacher on www.mypetchicken.com and are delivered directly to the school.
Ms. Sisung added that she uses the chicks to teach computer skills (using search engines such as Google), sequencing, science, and literacy.
“The life cycle is something we should always teach our children,” Principal Chiasson added, “it’s amazing how many lessons can be taught from tiny creatures to our tiny creatures”
